The Victoria Velotour

Introduction

The Victoria Velotour is a road cycling tour for trained cyclists in groups of minimum 10 persons and maximum 35. It is the ideal training camp in one of the most cycling-friendly regions of this world.  Registration is open for individuals and for teams, clubs or other cycling groups. Participants will be joined by a local expert guide and cyclist, and receive all further logistical support.

The Victoria Velotour takes riders through the magnificent State of Victoria and features all the highlights a visitor to the region wishes to have. The cycling training part is complemented with many cultural and culinary activities typical of Victoria to provide participants with an even more rewarding experience.

The Victoria Velotour offers an exciting itinerary with a great blend of different types of terrain spread over 9 stages. A competitive element is introduced by means of a mountain time trial on Mt William (1167m) with prize awards in the Grampians National Park.  Each stage will also include a free pace section to allow participants to test their legs against each other if they wish to do.

We publish 4 tour dates for 2015, but tailor-made arrangements can be done for cycling teams or clubs at any time of the year.

Just drop us an email so we can star planning.

At all times: we do the work, you do the cycling!

Competition: The Victoria Velotour is not an official race, but we do have a timed mountain time trial race over 22km on Mt William in the Grampians National Park (10km uphill) with prizes. Every day also includes a timed free pace section on traffic-free roads of up to 15km, so you can test your legs against each other.

Target group

EVERYBODY who is rather used to riding race bikes: competitive racehorses, granfondo chasers, Sunday morning club riders and anyone else who is not frightened by three-digit distances for a few days in a row.

It is the perfect training camp for Cadel Evans GOR People's Ride (January), Amy's Granfondo (September), Peaks Challenge (March) or other upcoming competitions in Victoria and other parts of Australia, and likewise the perfect end-of-season event for your team or cycling club.

Because of the daily long distances, the Victoria Velotour is not designed for occasional tourbike or holiday riders.

Format

Participants will be accompanied by one or more expert cyclists during the duration of the Velotour and will have mechanical assistance available at all times*. This is a group outing so the idea is to stay together by default rather than go off by yourself. Should the group be large enough, two smaller groups can be formed riding at a different pace. In addition, each day will feature a "free pace" section of approx. 10-15km during which participants can test their legs against each other if they wish to do so. As in any standard group ride, people of course also negotiate hillclimbs at their own pace and the first one at the top waits for the rest to catch up.

* = Except in the case of participation in a granfondo event, where riders are expected to follow the guidelines of the specific event.
